When you’re traveling with kids, keeping them entertained becomes a top priority. In this article, I’ll share the various activities available in Madeira that are perfect for family outings.
Jardins do Garajau is probably my favorite spot. It boasts a fantastic playground with large slides, a fitness area, and a small track for skating or rollerblading. While kids are enjoying themselves, adults can treat themselves to a cup of coffee. There’s also a great selection of snacks available. The park is beautifully landscaped with various plants. I particularly love the massive metal slides.
2. Parque Temático da Madeira
The Parque Temático da Madeira offers a plethora of entertainment options for children, making it an ideal destination for families. In addition to the educational exhibits and play areas mentioned earlier, the park features numerous attractions tailored to young visitors.
One of the highlights is a mini zoo with various animals, providing children with the opportunity to observe and learn about wildlife up close. Visitors can also enjoy boating activities on-site or engage in thrilling naval battles. For a unique experience, families can take a ride on the park’s train, adding an extra element of fun to their visit.
Furthermore, the park includes a dedicated children’s pavilion housing a playground and an interactive exhibition that educates young visitors about flour production. Additionally, families are encouraged to visit the 5D cinema for an immersive cinematic experience that engages all the senses. Moreover, the park boasts not one, but two additional children’s playgrounds, ensuring ample opportunities for kids to play and explore throughout their visit. With its diverse range of attractions and activities catering specifically to children, the Parque Temático da Madeira promises a memorable and enriching experience for families visiting Madeira Island.
3. Quinta do Santo da Serra
Quinta do Santo da Serra is a public park marked by a vast green expanse. It is an excellent recreational space on the east coast of Madeira, highly appreciated by families. At Quinta do Santo da Serra, you can find animals such as peacocks, deer, and Garrano horses, as well as a mini-golf course and a tennis court. There’s also a picnic area and a viewpoint overlooking the municipality of Machico, Ponta de São Lourenço, and even the island of Porto Santo.
4. Parque de Santa Catarina
Parque de Santa Catarina is a beautiful public park located in the heart of Funchal city on the island of Madeira, Portugal. This park is one of the most popular and visited spots among both locals and tourists alike. It offers an extensive green area, perfect for strolling, picnicking, and enjoying the outdoors. The park features well-maintained lawns, flower beds, and tree-lined pathways, creating a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation and leisure. Parque de Santa Catarina has a very good playground where children can play and have fun.can also enjoy beautiful views of the ocean and the city from the park’s panoramic viewpoint. It’s the perfect place to spend time outdoors, appreciating the beauty of nature and the atmosphere of Funchal city.
However, this is just the small part of available activities for children in Madeira. Stay tuned for the second part, where we will explore other exciting activities for kids on the island.

What could be better than a peaceful evening hike surrounded by Madeira’s stunning landscapes?
As the sun sets and the island is bathed in golden light, the trails take on a magical charm. The cooler temperatures, the soft sounds of nature, and the breathtaking views make evening hikes an unforgettable experience.
To be honest, evening hikes, just before sunset, are my absolute favorite time to hit the trails. Even the most popular routes feel empty, giving you the rare sense of complete solitude. The landscapes and stunning views feel like they belong only to you, wrapped in the golden hues of the setting sun.
If you ask me whether I’d choose evening hikes over morning ones, my answer would be a resounding 100%! And not just because I’m not a fan of waking up in the dark to an alarm clock 🙂
What about you? Which hike do you prefer — sunrise or sunset?
